It is common place in the Independent Financial advise world to recommend investments from a large range of different types of investments. However, the past has shown us that not all are created equally and there have been a number of high profile fund closures, collapses and disappearances in recent years.
This does not provide you with peace of mind since you never know, 100%, how or where your money is being invested.
At the Spectrum IFA Group we have developed strict criteria to safeguard our clients from investments that are potentially higher risk for a number of structural and investment reasons.
These are our basic criteria for a fund/investment house before we will recommend it to our clients:
- The fund must be EU compliant
- It must be priced daily (and be able to be liquidated daily as well)
- It must be UCITS compliant (or equivalent)
- We only recommend from large, liquid and secure investment houses.
- Each investment house must be highly rated by 2 third party research companies (eg Morning Star OBSR, S&P, Financial Express, Fitch)
- The investment house must have 2-3 of the best funds per sector, across 14 clearly defined investment sectors.
We might be hard on the investment houses, but we feel that by doing so we are placing the safety of our clients money above anything else.
